When Power Paladin released their debut album With the Magic of Windfyre Steel, I knew they were a power metal band to watch. The album was solid, with plenty of catchy songs and soaring vocals, but I could tell they were just getting started. Four years later, they’re back with Beyond the Reach of Enchantment, and it is everything I had hoped their sophomore album would be and more. Comprised of vocalist Atli Guðlaugsson, guitarists Bjarni Þór Jóhannsson and Ingi Þórisson, drummer Einar Karl Júlíusson, keyboardist Bjarni Egill Ögmundsson, and bassist Kristleifur Þorsteinsson, this Icelandic band is poised to take over the power metal world in 2026.
Full of high-energy melodic ragers, Beyond the Reach of Enchantment is what a power metal album should be. It’s filled with triumphant anthems full of swagger and flair. The choruses soar, the guitar work dazzles, and the stories the band tells with each song are some of the most literate fantasy lyrics I’ve heard in a while. Fans of Helloween, Majestica, Twilight Force, and the like will love this release.
