Danish Deathcore kings Unseen Faith emerge out of the darkness with a new EP titled Prodigal Sons. Their first offering since 2020s Evoke, the quintet set out to prove once again that they should never be left out of the conversation when bands at the top of the deathcore/metalcore genre are discussed.

Prodigal Sons is 13 minutes of straight fury and ferocity. Four blistering tracks are on display for you to get your teeth into. Or in this case, teeth knocked out, such is the violence exhibited here. There is absolutely no let up from the guys, beginning with the otherworldly grizzle of the vocal performance. Even when Alexander Eriksen utilises clean vocals, there is an alien quality to it that works brilliantly within the framework of their sound. When he growls and screams, though, the result is immediately threatening and portentous.

He is backed up with vivacity by Klaus Schmidt Kristoffersen on Drums, Mads Risbjerg Andersen and Jakob Langvad on Guitar, and Christian Jensen on Bass. These guys have sharpened their skills to deliver another project that will keep fans drooling for more.

It is very difficult to pick a highlight from these four tracks. Each one is a power play, a kick in the head, and a reminder to other bands that they will not be ignored. Mirza Radonjica of SIAMESE features on track 4, the first single off the release, Deadly Potential, and he slots into the proceedings as if he were a long-time member.

All in all, this EP does exactly what an EP is supposed to do, which is to put fans at ease before the next full length album drops, and also to serve as an appetiser to new listeners, so they get a flavour of what the band is all about. I await their next offering.
