It is well documented how hard it is to distinguish yourself in the Scandinavian metal scene. Countless bands have tried and failed to bring something fresh from this part of the world. Nevertheless, emerging menacingly out of Finland comes Morbid Evils, who are set to release their third album, Supernaturals

There is not one happy note on the entire record. It is a furious expression of rage and torment. From the rumbling vocals of Keijo Niinimaa (of grindcore band Rotten Sound), who also handles the duties of Guitars, Octaver Bass and Samples, to the angry, stabbing Lead Guitar of Tuomas Varila and the savage drumming of Jarno Virkki, the entire recording is a brutal exercise in musical overachievement.

The force these three men generate is simply staggering. They possess a ‘wall of sound’ quality that provides no sanctuary, but is also strangely hypnotic. From the first note of track 1, Fearless, they pin the listener to their seat with the sheer weight of the sonic assault. And the listener will love every minute.

The album explores every facet of the subgenres that Morbid Evils inhabits. The 4 songs span 40 minutes, each switching from relentless, abrasive thrashing to earthshaking landslides of creeping power. These are all punctuated with the primal bellow of the vocal, adding another layer to the powerful devastation created by the music.

This is an album that is best listened to in its entirety each time. The 4 tracks are perfectly crafted slabs of monumental bestial ferocity. From start to finish, this album grips the listener by the neck and takes them on a journey through the melancholy of the psychology of man. Anybody who listens to any of the subgenres this bands shifts between with ease will be glad to add this album to their collection.
