I have no idea what a “MOLYBARON” is or if it is anything at all and that it is now firmly rooted as the name of this very excellent, Celtic originating, band.  Unless it is a Celtic or Irish term, but regardless, what we have is a band that is quite like no other – well I mean they are unique in their own existence, but you can always lay claim to their sound being like that of some other bands because that is the yardstick to which we all measure new music, unfortunately.

All that aside, “SOMETHING OMINOUS” is exactly that as it is progressive and darkened melodic existence comes into play, and before I’m lambasted with my analogy there you should immediately listen to the song BILLION DOLLAR SHAKEDOWN and I challenge you not to groove the fuck out when you hear the pre-chorus with its little off-beat and catchy vocal line which is attached to a very well written song throughout and will no doubt make you think of various types of bands from the early 2000s, but I’m not in the market of comparing – yes, there are similarities and for me, I can even think to bands like Life Of Agony but MOLYBARON really are their own incarnation and are no doubt infused with lots of European metal as well as many others, but they have taken their own line through the sand I think to stand out in a way that you would hard-pressed to say they sound identical to anyone.

Get the album, have a listen to the ten tracks on offer, and you won’t be disappointed, well you might be, that the ten tracks finish after 38 minutes, and you were hoping for more, but then you realise you can just re-listen to the whole album again and notice the subtleties you missed on the first pass – then repeat! Job done.
