Review By: Rick Farley

“In times when despair overflows human hearts… when the chasm of strife between civilizations widens… when loyalty to ideologies tears blood ties apart… when the world stands still, poised for the final leap of prolonged self-destruction… We can draw strength solely from internal sources, which are filled only by the multifaceted power of Death Metal…”  – Eximperitus

For those new to the band or anyone that hasn’t ever connected the dots, this bands full name is Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum, or for the sake of this review and probably anyone who mentions the band in actual pronunciation, it’s Eximperitus for short. These Belarusian purveyors of death metal barbarity are set to release their third full length album Meritoriousness of Equanimity via Willowtip Records. An album that melds extreme heaviness with the otherworldly to form what can only be described as sounding like the eternal torment of hell being siphoned straight through a cosmic void, unleashing pure darkness and catastrophic annihilation upon the earth. In simpler words this is pretty fucking gnarly death metal.

One Step Long Infinity kicks off the album with grotesquely toned, complex but fully intelligible riffs that swagger between spidery and hammering. Think along the line towards early Suffocation with a flourish of contorting blackened sound in the vein of Immolation. Full on relentless blasting and double bass caving in your chest while the gutturals shred your flesh with its torn throat harshness. A brisk 2 minutes 25 seconds of utter dominance.

Contemplation of the Plastic Fibers of Perfection at the Second Level of Reality spasms its crunchy guitarwork heavily muted with a sinister relentless. Grimy and neck breaking, this track bores into your conscious with entrancing, quirky melody lurking below the ugliness of the riffs giving you a nervous anxiety in your veins, while your soul is being severed mercilessly. The overall soundscape has an Egyptian aura about it that feels mystical and as if the aliens actually did build the pyramids. It’s alluring and mysterious while its grinding complexity batters everything into dust that seamlessly drifts into the desert sand.

Molecular Disintegration of an Unattainable Solitary Will in a Vessel of Wisdom is one of two instrumentals on Meritoriousness of Equanimity. Normally I don’t bring them up as highlights, however on this album they both work incredibly well. This particular one is extremely sorrowful, with a celestial airiness that lingers underneath slow moving lead guitar work. It’s simple but feels like an integral part of the record setting sombre moods before the next onslaught of brutality, while also keeping the otherworldly soundscapes atmospheric.

There weren’t any production credits given with the press release, but I assure you it’s a disgusting beast. The trebly Guitars are sharp in places and jagged in others, the bass is warm and full toned with a slinkiness complementing the different textures of the frenetic riffs. The drums sound like drums should with plenty of pounding thud and crisp snap. The vocals roar with low gutturals and course rawness, with the occasional clean midrange vocal soaring above the mix. Meritoriousness of Equanimity is a twisting, contorted piece of death metal that despite its brutality, it’s easy on the ears production wise.

Honestly, I would find it difficult to not enjoy this record if you like even one band mentioned in the FFO section. This is just hideous, brutal death metal that is also groovy, well written, and complex without being tech-death.

Eximperitus leaves you burdened by the weight of the bands cosmic scope as much as you’ll be savagely eradicated by their brutality. Easy recommend.
