Review By: Eric Wilt

Alluvial got their start as an instrumental band. I remember hearing their first album, The Deep Longing for Annihilation, and thinking that the only thing that could enhance the bands already impressive technical death metal would be vocals. Here we are six years later, and Alluvial is preparing their second full length with vocalist Kevin Muller. The first Alluvial record to have vocals was 2021’s Sarcoma. Before they unleash their next opus on the death metal world, the band has decided to drop an EP to bridge the gap between the two LPs.

Death is But a Door consists of four songs that are full of the heavy progressive death metal that Alluvial is known for. From the grim sludginess of Bog Dweller and Fogbelt to the brutal chugging of Area Code to the brooding melodicism of the closing title track, Death is But a Door is, while brief, a satisfying morsel of progressive death metal goodness that should hold fans of the band over nicely while the next full-length is prepared.
