“Now with BLKIIBLK on our side Nunslaughter can ram the black horn of Satan down the throats of every metalhead on the planet, spitting fresh venom and blistering hatred directly into the rotting face of Christianity with Satanic Chaos Legion.”

Don’t threaten me with a good time. Pittsburgh and Cleveland purveyors of the upside down cross, Nunslaughter, return with their hellfire infused punky, thrashy death metal on Satanic Chaos Legions. The blistering speed, putrid distaste for Christianity, and wicked riffs all hellbent to whip your soul into a kinetic frenzy is all part of their appeal. Sneering attitude, extremely speedy musical aggression, and groovy thrash/death metal. What’s not to like?

Originally formed in 1987 and with 200 plus EPs, splits, as well as live recordings under their belts, Satanic Chaos Legions is technically only the bands sixth full length studio album. Outliving all the trends, scenes, and the current, often exhausting old school worship, Nunslaughter does what they do best with zero regard for your comfort level. Horns up worthy hooks, hostile thrashiness and devil metal.

Tracks like Jesus Fucking Dies, Rotten Messiah and Lucifer the Light rips, tears, and shreds their uber aggressive riffs right into your flesh with a vigour that still sounds like the band has got something to prove, while tracks like Christian Ruse, Peukharist and Heavenless groove with a hooky crunch that disintegrates your bones like a hammer repeatedly swinging on you. As you can clearly see from the outstanding song titles, Christianity and Satan are key topics for lyrical content making Nunslaughter feel delightfully tongue in cheek with a barrage of savage fun in the form of musical violence. The bands raw sharpness combined with a percussive attack that structurally sounds like the equivalent of a demonic freight train moving at ungodly speeds, looking to obliterate everything, while fully enjoying every second of the sacrilegious, headbanging destruction is a musical trait that is seemingly being lost in the today’s music. Shoe glaring, trendy, overly serious hipsters should probably stay away. This is way too badass for you. Seriously though, this record delivers chaotic, merciless extreme metal in huge chunks of hate filled blasphemy and sometimes that’s all you really need.

When all is said and done Satanic Chaos Legions is a hard hitting, blast of a record to just turn off your brain, worship Satan, and fucking let the headbanging loose. The chaotic pace, the groove, and primal destruction will ignite even the most timid of metalheads. So don’t fight it, just forget that music doesn’t always have to be groundbreaking, serious, or genre pushing to have a great time. While this is meant to kick your ass with purely aggressive intent, in all seriousness though, this might not be for everyone considering its angsty lyrical content, and its kind of cheesy goodness, and that’s ok, I guess. Honestly though, these dudes have been around for ages and can truly put on a hell of a fun show, these songs that will absolutely crush in the live setting. If you want a record that slaps, or fucks or whatever the hell the kids are saying these days, this is it. Hellacious fun time.
