Violent. I could very easily end my review after that one word. I played this for a non-metal fan, after a few seconds his eyes grew wide. I asked him what’s the first word that comes to your mind when you hear that? He said “Violence.” I already knew where I was going to take this review, but his reaction reaffirmed that very thought for me. Ultra-Noise Warfare by Profanation is exactly that. Violent.
This record by this French wrecking crew through Iron Bonehead Productions is just pure anarchy. Grind, hardcore and death metal vibes make this record a force. At 9 songs, this 27 minute nuclear war plays faster than its 27 minutes. The punk rock fan in me loves the hyper speed and relentless attack to brutal music. It’s a very intelligent record in that it’s not a sloppy desolate mess that most grindcore delivers. Instead it’s a riff fest, a dirty and combustible one at that!
This is not your typical grindcore. This is in your face, ultra aggressive with a nasty death metal edge. On September 25, this gritty and filthy record will shake you uncontrollably. Ultra-Noise Warfare is metaphorically waging war, and its assault is inexorable and unyielding.
The opening track Servile Rot is Barney era Napalm Death. Total grind blending a ferocious death metal punk. My personal favorite song on the record. It packs a punch and then just keeps delivering rights and lefts leaving you in a pile of bone and flesh.
Army of Dogs followed by Nosebleed Razor lead an uncompromising onslaught with its crushing blast beats and ruthless vocals. By this point in the record the war is peaking and your forces are succumbing to the attack. The war is on, and we are the victims!
The title track , Ultra-Noise Wafare is heavy dose of pure death metal riffs. The catchy yet chugging riff during the chorus is pure sickness. There’s a sludgy feel to it which is sort of an anomaly in grindcore, but they make it fit. A very distinct difference from the rest of the genre.
Total Stomp isn’t just a clever song title. It’s the proverbial curb stomp that leaves a pile of gore behind in its wake. The heaviest and sludgiest song on the record shows Profanation’s range. They can pound you to a merciless demise without the pure speed and adrenaline the record exhibits.
Profanation is leading the pack in this new, yet classic death grind sound. It’s not the silly punk influence nonsense that some grindcore has delivered. This is a very mature, pulsating brick of heavy metal mastery. Ultra-Noise Warfare is a must listen, but heed my warning, it will be you unmercifully!
