Norway’s Storm is a solo band, created by 13-year-old Leo Davida Sundli. 13 f*cking years old! For a debut EP from someone so young, this is a very impressive display of songs. All tracks are very nicely put together, not sticking to the same formula and playing around with a couple of different genres. With the new wave of alternative coming through from the likes of Bring Me the Horizon, Yungblud and Falling in Reverse, Storm couldn’t have picked a better time to unleash “Invincible” onto the world.

Diving straight into the opening track “Beautiful Pain” and straight away, you can hear the influences break through. The track resonates a familiar sound similar to “Obey” by BMTH, but the overall sound is more like a very heavy hard rock track, adding in some aggressive vocals for extra flavour throughout the song. The chorus is very infectious, making listeners want to dance and move. It sounds like it could be a very fun song to sing along to, but the recording let this track down, as the lack of enunciation in the chorus makes it sound more like a tuneful noise rather than lyrics sung with meaning.

Break Yourself” delivers to its name, opening with a breakdown fit to match many of the metalcore bands dominating the scene today. This is definitely a more aggressive take than the previous track, lacing the song with a Motionless in White type synth-lead to bring the track together. The vocals seem to have stepped up a notch from the previous, from the cleans to the screaming and even the addition of a rap verse. It’s predecessor and title track of the EP “Invincible” is also a very incredible composition, with a chorus that will get all the metalcore kids singing along. It feels a lot softer than the previous song but still keeps the adrenaline flowing with the vocals leading the listener through the verses. End track “King” also keeps the energy at a 10, delivering a metalcore party track that would be a huge hit at club nights. The anthemic chorus mixed with the synths and techno sounds that play throughout this track will definitely get any crowd moving.

For a debut EP from someone so young, Storm has delivered a very impressive couple of tracks. He very clearly knows the sound he’s going for and with his career starting at such a young age, it’s only going to get better. The vocals need a bit of refining, but with the young man being the age he is, this will more than likely improve with age and practice. Indie Recordings have truly found a diamond in the rough with this act, and I look forward to seeing where his career takes him.
