Rooted firmly in the spirit of 90s classic death metal, Texas underground titans Haserot execute their vision of putrid, aggressive, ferocity with modern conviction, sinister atmosphere and one foot planted in the traditional murk of the legendary bands that came before them. Crushing riffs, fluid lead work and old school songwriting structures meld together groove, blistering tempos, and haunting melodic elements to form an infectious ode to the past but very much with precise modern brutality. The band’s debut, full length album Advent of Suffering, being released July 10th, 2026, via Redefining Darkness Records will surely scratch that grimy itch for something ugly, unrelenting, and angry but still intensely melodic and familiar.

Haserot as a whole fit easily with the death metal bands of the 90s but does not sound like any one of those bands specifically. Lots of influences can be heard within their music, but great care is taken in the songwriting to be presented with a more contemporary balance of extremes. There’s a wicked creative dynamic in the way the songs are pieced together and structured that will have you reminiscing gleefully as it’s fully shredding your flesh off with its fresh bladed steel. The musicianship, songwriting and execution are all top-notch while still being bloodthirsty as hell.

Opener and title track Advent of Suffering is a perfect example of haunting atmosphere, rapid muscular pummelling and vicious shred coming together in a memorable song structure. The blazing, sharp lined riffs, menacingly playful melodies and gruff harsh vocals spitting out similar to that of Jeff Walker make this an immediate favourite. Poverty of Thought goes for a grinding buzzsaw style guitar, set at the pace of blistering before it settles into a crunchy groove complete with leads that rapidly spider out accenting the headbanging stomp with shreddy violence. The vocals are more growly and low ended adding additional darker personality to this track. The beautifully warped Cruentis Omega despite it being simply a classical driven acoustic guitar piece cleanses the palate for the remaining brutality the record has left to come and offers up a respite that feels like it actually belongs. More often than not bands put in instrumental passages with no real reason to do so, this to me feels like it should be here and truly added to the enjoyment and flow of the record.

Advent of Suffering was recorded at Lucky Run Studio with Ricardo Contreras with mixing and mastering done by the legendary Dan Swanö at Unisound Studios. Tons of crisp edged, trebly guitars jagged enough to rip and tear easily, the piercing leads soar over the mix while the low-end lumber low just enough to balance out the foundation. It’s not shattering on the ears, but it’s also not entirely warm and fuzzy sounding either. The music is abrasive, and the production fits it perfectly. With a few guest spots from vocalist Marc Grewe on Tears of Bethlehem and James Murphy as well as Andy LaRocque on Curse of Haserot, you can see the kind of musicianship you’re getting within the record.

Long story short this is a pretty sick record that will please just about any death metal fan old or new. Haserot is a band that will be on my radar for some time to come. If you like even one of the bands in the FFO section, you should be checking this out. Easy recommend.
