Review By: Paul Cairney

California’s purveyors of the finest mincecore, Haggus, have returned with an EP, The Mincecore Manifesto, 12 months after their excellent 4th album, ‘Destination Extinction’. This album made my top 5 last year, so I was delighted to continue my mincecore, particularly Haggus, journey.

From the opening distorted spoken words, ‘Disease the Police’, we are subjected to 8 outstandingly heavy tracks. 8 songs on an EP you say, well yes, and if it wasn’t for the almost 4-minute runtime of ‘Ain’t Life Grand’ we would clock in at a mere 11 minutes long. As it stands, a mere 15 ½ minutes out of your day will deliver enough energy and fun to keep you going like the Duracell bunny!

The riffs are infectious. They stroke the back of your neck with aggressive subtlety, but it is the bass, the glorious chugging, mesmerising bass that drives the tracks home. Again, from the opening ‘Disease the Police’, you are eviscerated by the bass-runs.

Vocally, the growls and screams remain unearthly. They screech and holler, punching you in the gut with each utterance. Haggus just ooze menace with each song threatening your life.

The Mincecore Manifesto is a ridiculously easy EP to listen to. Catchy, dirty, slimy and cool, it delivers on every level each and every second of each and every song.

Haggus may not take over the world, but if there was any justice in this unworthy planet, they probably should.

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)
