Review By: Eric Wilt

Miasmatic Deathless Chamber by Demiurgon is your typical meat and potatoes death metal album. The songs are well written and competently played, but there’s not a huge amount that stands out or sticks with the listener after the final song finishes. That’s not to say it doesn’t warrant your attention. The album is worth checking out for the sick Giannis Nakos cover artwork alone, but just because they haven’t rewritten the book on death metal or pushed its boundaries to new places doesn’t mean Miasmatic Deathless Chamber isn’t enjoyable. Fans of grooving riffs, relentless blast beats, and demonic gutturals will find plenty of all three here.

If nothing else, Demiurgon, which is comprised of vocalist Stefano Borciani, guitarists Emanuele Otani and Dani Benincasa, bassist Riccardo Benedini and drummer Riccardo Valent, understand the assignment. They’re not here to dazzle with prog flourishes, shoehorn in dissonant jazz chords, or wrap every riff in atmosphere, but they do play death metal the way it’s been done for decades, and they do it with conviction. The production is tight without being sterile, giving the guitars plenty of bite and the drums a commanding presence in the mix. While the record may not top any “best of” lists, it scratches that primal itch for heavy, unpretentious brutality to listen to when you want to headbang without overthinking.
