Review By: Eric Wilt

It turns out Cryptworm is from Bristol, UK, but when I first put on their new album, I guessed they would be from Ohio. That’s because Ohio bands like 200 Stab Wounds and Sanguisugabogg are churning out some super-heavy, sludgy death metal, and, on Oozing Radioactive Vomition, the guys in Cryptworm sound like they’ve been hanging out in the dirty Midwest.

Like the aforementioned Ohio bands, Cryptworm is here to drive the listener into the dirt that they were just exhumed from. Think super-thick, chunky guitars and ground-shakingly low gutturals mixed with grooving riffs that you can bob your head to. On Oozing Radioactive Vomition, Cryptworm has created some really ugly songs (ugly in the best way). I can’t find who the cover artist is for the new album, but I would bet it’s either one of the band members or one of their close friends because the artist gets this music. The picture, which features a half man-half corpse literally oozing radioactive vomition, is not pretty or polished. It’s as gruesome and raw as the subject matter itself, and it perfectly encapsulates the songs herein.

It’s the end of the year, and there aren’t a lot of new albums coming out between now and January 1st, but at least one more sick death metal album is dropping in ’23. Oozing Radioactive Vomition is everything you want from a depraved death metal record, and I have no doubt we’ll be banging our heads to it well into ’24.
