Tampa, Florida, the hotbed of some of the most influential death metal bands to ever grace our ears, has once again spit out a new release from raw, blackened death metal veterans Perdition Temple. Composed of three of metals most seasoned musicians, guitarist/founder Gene Palubicki of Angelcorpse fame, drummer Ron Parmer (Malevolent Creation, Amon, Brutality) and bassist/vocalist Alex Blume (Ares Kingdom, Blasphemic Cruelty) have unleashed their fifth summoning with the respectfully old school Malign Apotheosis. Released November 28th, 2025, on Hells Headbangers, this record is a glorious blast of gritty, ugly chaotic death metal. In the same vein of early Morbid Angel meets Hell Awaits Slayer, Malign Apotheosis is not looking to be soothing. It’s fucking nasty, wildly bent guitar riffs that twist and churn spastically. Gravely death/thrash vocals spew their vile as the rhythm section pummels you with crushing tempo changes and frenzied speed. From the first track to the last, this is a headbangers dream, constant motion, grizzled tones, and perversely evil sounding.
Opening track Resurrect Damnation is a grossly blackened beating of ripping chainsaw tremolo riffs accented heavily by a relentless blast beat, double bass chest crushing. The tempo is mostly fast and thrashy with little room for catching your breath. If you’re in the pit during this song, this might be your last night on earth. Screechy, blistering guitar solos increase the absolute maniacal chaos of this track. Mind shredding and continuously attacking your weak body, this feels like an attempt at demonic possession.
The combination of morbidly stompy groove and outright warped riffs of Purging Conflagration is beyond ungodly savagery. One minute you’re in an undeniable hook, ugly as sin but a hook nonetheless and the next, the wickedness shines through in the form of jagged, whirlwind guitars that have a serial killer madness to them. To say this album is sadistic seems kind of putting it mildly. Everything about this sounds pernicious. Very much in the Robert Vigna, Trey Azagoth realm of riffing, but absolutely not a carbon copy. Perdition Temple has their own spin which adds darker black metal and thrash elements that gives it more of an unhinged extreme chaos.
Sitting at 34 minutes, this hits all the violence you’ll need in a shorter period of time. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and leaves you begging for more. By the time album closer Fell Sorcery has finally conjured the full depths of hell right into your living room, the record is over, and you’re left with the sulphurous smoke and locusts emerging from the hellish abyss. Might as well hit play again.
At the end of the day, while Malign Apotheosis is not anything you haven’t heard before technically, it stands on its own with a fuck-ton of blackened death metal nastiness that’s easy to listen to. It’s got groove, ferocious speed, outrageous solos, memorability, and plenty of insane technicality. On the surface, you might not notice right away, but these dudes are extremely skilled musicians as well as songwriters. There are more than enough holy shit moments that come across as more than just brutal riffs thrown together.
Despite its seemingly uncontrolled sound, this is quite refined in the way it all comes together. Honestly, I couldn’t see anyone not digging this unless you’re just not a fan of good, raw death metal. Easy recommend.
