It’s been almost six years since their superb self-titled debut album first hit the heavy rock music scene, but Electric Hydra are well and truly back with their follow-up offering of “From the Fallen”.
Much like the eight headed mythical beast of the legends that they share their handle with, Electric Hydra have doubled down in the interim and emerged bigger, better and stronger.
Electric Hydra is Sanne Karlsson (vocals), Ellinor Andersson (bass), Emil Andersson (guitar, vocals), Adi Selimic (guitar) and Dennis Ahman (drums).
I don’t know about a “Scent of Blood”, but I certainly got the scent of something truly special unfolding before my very eyes (well, ears to be precise) right off the bat with this one. No compromise, no quarter asked for or given, this is high octane good old-fashioned hard rock and an absolute joy to behold.
So, as we continue to “Let the Chaos Unfold” this hard hitting second track adds plenty of bite with some wicked riffing and rebel rousing rock vocals. If you like me have “Prayers of Fire” then prepare to have them answered tenfold by Electric Hydra in this smoking hot banger with a rocking retro twist in its tail!
“It’s All Just Dirt” and Electric Hydra most certainly don’t mind getting right down in it with fabulously filthy riffs and gloriously grimy vocals to beautifully mess with your day. “When Destruction Calls” all you need to do is answer the door and invite those Electric Hydra vibes over the threshold to fill those empty voids in your mind with beautiful sound.
At this point I am sure, like me, you will already be hooked but if not the extremely “Contagious” next track should really do the trick. Be warned, there is currently no cure to this kind of involuntary head shaking mania, and you are now onboard for the duration. Don’t make the mistake of anticipating a bright sunny start to a summer’s day, “A New Dawn” in this case is a deliciously dark and doom-laden affair with a marvellous melancholy undercurrent.
Heavy on the bass but nowhere near rotten to the core, “My Decay” has a ratcheting riff that is very sweet on the ears! With male vocals leading the way this time “Riding the Haze” pulsates throughout with a real old-school feel about it, think Lemmy and Motörhead and you won’t be far off the mark!
High tempo penultimate track “The Fallen” raises the stakes once more and unleashes the fury in a flat-out ear blitz that will have you banging your head so hard you either pass out or snap your bloody neck, freaking awesome! Curtain closer “A Sky Full of Fading Stars” takes things down a notch in terms of speed, but the foot remains firmly on the gas in terms of a deep thumping psychedelic vibe with a nod to the early 70s and the Hendrix era. What a cool way to finish!
Electric Hydra have absolutely nailed it with “From the Fallen”, so if the ripples of this release don’t turn into big waves of adoration from peers and critics alike, there is no justice in this cold cruel world!
“From the Fallen” drops on Friday 13th February, which could turn out to be a very unlucky day for you if you fail to check out this absolute belter of an album.
Therefore, don’t tempt fate or leave things in the hands of those ever-fickle rock gods, take charge of the situation and Pre-save “From the Fallen” by Electric Hydra now to avoid any unnecessary calamities on the day!! Very Highly Recommended!
