Hailing from Giessen, Germany and formed in 2020 Lynx received early acclaim in their career due to their modern recasting of a hard rock style created way back in the 70s.

Starting out with a single male vocalist, the addition of Amy Zine as a vocalist and synth player in 2022 added an extra string to their bow and gave them much more scope. With the departure of the original vocalist/guitarist in 2025 Amy has now taken on the lion’s share of vocal duties and given Lynx their own unique vibe.

Recorded live, their new album “Trinity of Suns” is now the very definitive sound of Lynx albeit still staying completely authentic and true to their well-crafted modern yet retro sound.

Lynx is Amy Zine (vocals and synthesiser), Tim Kunz (guitar and synthesiser), Ioannis Athanasiadis (guitar), Phil Helm (bass) and Franz Fesel (drums).

Voyager” eases us gently into the album with an immersive and slightly melancholy start before truly kicking off with an old-fashioned 70s style jam. The male, female vocals blend seamlessly throughout the song and the story telling is faultless. There is also so darn good guitar work on show, too!

Next up “Oppressive Season” is a mighty fine rocker of a tune with an undeniably catchy hook that feels warm, welcoming and comfortingly familiar. The music is anything but oppressive as you are enveloped in its homely embrace and taken on a wonderfully psychedelic journey back to much simpler and happier days.

Title track “Trinity of Suns” follows a very similar path, although it has a slightly more progressive rock feel to it. You simply won’t be able to resist being slowly drawn in by its cosmic beauty, leaving you totally unable to do anything other than bask in its glory! Just close your eyes and enjoy the ride!

Instrumental interlude “Parhelia” briefly shines bright, showcasing Lynx’s undoubted talent as not only as a solid rock outfit but also as great composers too.

Stranger Sign in the Sky” is an absolute peach of a tune with that deeply ingrained retro sound and riffage that Lynx produce coursing right through it veins from start to finish. It’s cool, it’s retro and it really rocks, man!

Flowing along like a lazy river “Seven Days of Darkness” twangs softly, silkily and gently like a relaxing Sunday afternoon after an overindulgent lunch. It’s atmospheric, smooth as chocolate and very, very easy on the ears. Delightful!

Epic curtain closer “Island Universe” throbs into life with a futuristic progressive rock opening before hitting the gas and cranking up the pace. The song then alternates in wicked waves in the old school way that firmly hold your interest and enhance your anticipation of what’s to come. A perfect finish to a high-quality album!

Trinity of Suns” is chock-full of groovy songs that echo a time when listeners had an attention span longer than that of a goldfish. If you’re an old rocker like me then you’re going to absolutely love “Trinity of Suns” and the classic sound that Lynx brings to the table. There seem to be a growing number of bands who are reviving the cool retro sound of 70s rock and Lynx are most certainly one of the finest examples bringing it back again for the younger audience. Once again there is hope and long may it continue. Recommended!
