When it comes to power metal, few names garner more respect than Hansen. Kai Hansen, of course, has been there since the birth of the genre with Helloween and later Gamma Ray among others, and now his son Tim Kanoa Hansen is continuing the legacy his dad started. Induction is the symphonic power metal band comprised of T. Hansen who plays guitar, as well as singer Gabriele Gozzi, guitarist Justus Sahlman, bassist Dominik Gusch, and drummer Markus “Maks” Felber, and they are preparing to release their fourth full length on 6 February.

It would be unfair of me to suggest that Induction is riding the coattails of Kai Hansen. While it’s true Kai’s son is in the band, they play power metal, and they even cover Gamma Ray’s Empress from Land of the Free Part 2, Induction is their own beast entirely. Melodic, heavy, energetic, and perfectly produced, Love Kills! is the record of a band confident in their direction and ability. The choruses are catchy and beg to be sung, the solos are tasty, and the vocals are top-notch. Induction is a welcome addition to the world of power metal, and they will undoubtedly be at the top of the genre for years to come.

Induction honors power metal’s storied past without being held down by it. They have produced a record that’s big on hooks, catchy songs, and executed with arena-ready confidence. Whether you’re a long-time devotee of the genre or just getting into it, Love Kills! is an enjoyable reminder of why power metal endures. And Induction isn’t chasing Kai Hansen’s legacy; they’re building one of their own.
