Review By: Eric Wilt

I’ve been on an OSDM kick lately with my reviews. Last week it was Disembodiment, a month or so ago it was Putrescent, and today it’s the Pacific Northwest’s Reburied. Comprised of guitarists Ed Bingaman, Daniel Racines, and Paul Richards, drummer Alex Bytnar, vocalist Chris Pinto, and bassist Clayton Wolff, Re-Buried is ready to drop their second full-length entitled Flesh Mourning. Like the two aforementioned bands, Re-Buried’s brand of death metal is a sick blend of death and doom, reminiscent of Autopsy meets Incantation.

If you checked out Re-Buried’s debut record, Repulsive Nature, you know what you’re getting on Flesh Mourning. This is the good stuff, the kind of music that put death metal on the map in the first place, but with Re-Buried, you’re not getting regurgitated riffs from the glory days. On songs like Rotted Back to Life, the title track, and Pestilence Fog, you’re getting a band that knows how to give a nod to the classics while looking forward. From the production to songcraft, this is an album that sounds modern yet classic, familiar but never derivative.

With Flesh Mourning, Re-Buried has put the death metal world on notice. There’s a new purveyor of putridity out there. If you’re into the old school or the “sounds old school,” Flesh Mourning just might be your new favorite album.
