The Sunset of Being is an album that is a long time in coming. Created in 2006 by multi-instrumentalist and sole member, Damien, Tetramorphe Impure have finally released their 1st full length album.

Tetramorphe Impure is described as ‘funeral doom’, however this is slightly misleading. Yes, there is a definite doom backbone of the album, but there is a fantastic almost death metal vibe littered across the tracks.

Speaking of songs – we have 4 of them spread across 40 minutes. It isn’t often a doom album comes in on one side of a C90 cassette, but Damien manages it. Thankfully, it isn’t to the detriment of the songs. Tracks like ‘Forsaken Light’ and ‘Gravity’ are weighty. They are heavy and they ooze a doomy goodness.

But the album closer and title track of The Sunset of Being is the highlight of the album. It blends the doom with teeth-rattling death metal, creating a song that threatens devastation whilst salving your soul. It is a work of unbridled joy that brings the album, sadly, to a close.

The downside of The Sunset of Being is the length. You want one more song. One more song would make sense to you, it would be welcome. But the strength of the album is that it leaves you wanting more. The juxtaposition of funeral doom’s sorrowful dirges with death metal’s relentless aggression creates a sound that is both haunting and intense.

It is this fusion that helps Tetramorphe Impure to be an interesting addition to modern metal.
